HOW TO GIVE A
WINE TASTING PARTY IN YOUR HOME
How to Invite Your Guests: Let them know it is a Tasting and what type of Wine they will be Tasting— Red or White. (4-6 Guests) If they wish to bring wine or food, let them know it won’t be served till after the Tasting.
Set Up:: You can use your Dining Table or a 6 foot Folding Table with a Wonderful Tablecloth.
Arranging the Tasting: On the Left end of the table, start with the wine glasses and small napkins. Then the 1st bottle of Wine, next a water pitcher and a small bucket, Next – 2nd bottle of Wine, some crackers, french bread, sliced mild cheese on a small tray, Next 3rd bottle of Wine, a pitcher of water, a small bucket. Next – 4th bottle of Wine (at the right end of the table)
The pitcher of water and the bucket is for your guests to rinse out the previous wine and dump it in the small bucket. The crackers and cheese are for the palate
The Wine: What types of Wines and how to display them. Use either all White Wines or all Red Wines. Do not mix white and red.
You can use – All of one type: I.e Merlot-Red or Chardonay-White
OR Red – Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir
White – Chardonay, Pinot Grigo, Sauvignon Blanc, Reisling
Use from Low price to Higher price, i.e.: $4-$6, $8-$10, $12-$15, $18-$25. These are your 4 bottles!! I lke to put thee Lowest Price bottle in the third position.
How to Display the Wine: On each bottle – tape a small piece of paper with the price of the wine and the position on the table (1-4).
Put each bottle in a brown lunch bag and tape it shut by the spout and put the number of it’s position on the brown bag with a black marker. (front and back).(1-4)
How To Start: 6 Guests are great for a Tasting! Not counting you and partner. Take 6 medium sheets of paper and put each guests name at top and number down left side – 1,2,3,4, with space between each number for their opinion of that wine.
Give each guest their sheet of paper so they can put what they liked best and least and anything else,
After the Tasting: Collect their sheets of paper. NOW take the Wine bottles out of the brown paper bags, so they can see the wine and the price you taped on and the position where it was.
Let them know the Wine that had the most likes from their choices.
What to do Now Bring out some horsdoeuves and more wine if you wish. If they broought wine or food it can be set out now. NEVER set this up – till the Tasting of the Wine is over.
We will be talking about other kinds of Tastings later.
